Bristol children helped with maths and English skills
A scheme running in Bristol schools aiming to boost the progress of struggling children has been hailed a success by the council.
Around 2000 children attending schools in Bristol have benefited from a one-to-one programme launched in September 2009, helping them with English and maths skills.
The £900,000 scheme ran at primary and secondary schools helping children with an extra ten hours of tuition who were identified as being below the expected level for their age.
Cabinet Member for Children and Young People Councillor Clare Campion-Smith said: “The scheme will continue in the new school year, providing pupils with the short burst of individual help that can enable them to make the long term progress they need to in the key areas of literacy and numeracy.”
