Bristol people can barely run for the bus according to the BHF

It seems unlikely that people in Bristol would get out of breath running for a bus because we spend so much time waiting for one to turn up in the first place.

But according to new statistics from the British Heart Foundation’s (BHF) two fifths of residents in the South West confess they get out of breath running for a bus.

Findings also showed that 52 per cent of us in the West Country could barely make half a mile if they had to run, with 20 per cent collapsing after just 100 metres.

Sadly, 34 per cent wouldn’t even considering joining a gym to get fitter because they felt they were too out of shape to begin with.

Senior Cardiac Nurse at the BHF, Christopher Allen said: “These statistics are concerning, and paint a worrying picture about the nation’s fitness levels. Heart disease can affect anyone at any age, but keeping physically active is one of the best ways to help build a strong and healthy heart so we shouldn’t ignore the benefits.”

The new BHF poll has been released to coincide with the charity’s new fundraising campaign My Marathon.

It aims to get people to run a marathon over a month to help raise money to further research.

The MyMarathon event challenges everyone to complete the 26.2 miles in their own time. It could be 4 hours, 4 days or 4 weeks.
