Children Race Through the Present Pile on Christmas Morning Surpriseless Survey Finds

Excited children tear through their present pile on Christmas morning, according to a Gosh Really survey from The Entertainer.

They found that the average child will receive 24 presents this Christmas, but 58 per cent will spend less than 45 minutes opening them all.

Over 1000 people with gift buying responsibility for children ten years and under took part in the survey. Clearly they were from a more affluent area than BS2, where we give significantly less than 24 gifts per child and take about ten minutes to open everything.

More findings from the survey showed that 1 in 8 parents had children who didn’t stop to look at and play with the gift they’d opened before moving onto the next, something Chopsy Bristol really can’t get worked up about.

The survey which clearly took place in a parallel rich world, also found that just 26 per cent of parents feel their children appreciates every gift they receive.

The Entertainer presented the results of the survey to Child Psychologist, Dr Sonya Wallbank with the aim of coming up with a solution to slowing down present opening.

Dr Wallbank said: “The key is to lengthen the present opening process so that your child is able to think and appreciate the gift that they have been given rather than just plowing through in a frenzied excitement. Try different techniques to see what works for your family; taking it in turn to open gifts is a great way for families to take their time over the present opening part of the day.”

Dr Wallbank came up with tips to help children appreciate the presents they were given, but really, if kids want to race through presents with excitement on one day of the year, why not let them?
