Day out in Cardiff
Despite the general banter between Bristol and Cardiff, the Welsh city does make a good day out. It’s particularly ideal by train if you have a Thomas fan, as the journey is less than an hour and there is plenty to see outside the window. Do bear in mind the Severn Tunnel, as going through this can make ears pop and feel uncomfortable.
Cardiff’s regeneration has been one of great success. Heritage and modern architecture sit happily together, and Cardiff Bay has become a tourist destination in its own right.
For Free
Cardiff museum is massive and brilliant with something to amuse all ages. The dinosaur section is popular with youngsters, whilst the development of the universe is fascinating for older children.
Cardiff is also big for shopping, with arcades and market stalls sitting amongst all the high street favourites.

Dr Who fans can also enjoy location spotting, as the series was filmed in and around Cardiff. Below is a street in the main Cardiff centre transformed to a Christmas London for Voyage of the Damned, in a scene featuring David Tennant, Kylie Minogue, and Bernard Cribbins.

Day Out

The imposing Cardiff Castle sits right in the heart of the centre. Constructed and developed over the course of 2000 years, it has many features to keep you occupied: green park lands, falconry, battlement walk, Norman fort, moat, military museum and castle buildings.

An ideal amount of time spent here with a family would be around three hours leaving you plenty of time to take in other parts of Cardiff.
