Extra 370 Bristol school places for 2012
Families worried about a lack of school places in the city for the 2012 intake can feel some relief as an extra 370 places have been proposed by Bristol City Council.
In addition to this, the council will also be considering funding for schemes to adapt schools that have already increased their admissions number.
Approval for £37.1m in funding is needed to buy land and construct and adapt buildings.
Families currently applying for a primary school place for next September will be informed of proposals before the closing date.
Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, Clare Campion-Smith, said: “This work is not over for September 2012 and I expect we will be able to confirm some arrangements and announce more places as the academic year continues. Our advice remains for parents and carers to make good use of their three options and to get their applications in on time to stand the best chance of being offered a school of their choice.”
The closing date for primary applications for September 2012 is Sunday 15 January.
