Work due to begin on new Bristol Museum and Art Gallery lift

People with limited mobility and parents with buggies will find the Bristol Museum and Art Gallery easier to get around next year.

Work is due to begin installing a new lift at the museum which will access all floors.

The Edwardian toilets on the ground floor are also going to be refurbished and improvements made to baby changing facilities.

Head of Bristol’s Museums, Galleries and Archives, Julie Finch says: “We are all delighted work to install the lift is starting. I know some visitors have found accessing the top floor galleries very difficult – now we are addressing that and making our building fully accessible.

“We aim to minimise disruption as far as possible and may need to move or remove some objects from display and temporarily close off some of the public spaces. Above all, we want to ensure during the works visitors will continue to enjoy exploring our collections and at the same time we must make sure our collections are safe from dust and any potential damage caused by vibrations from builder’s equipment.“
