Family & Friends Railcard create visionary future travel for families
Getting the train with children should be a fun event. Youngsters enjoy the novelty of train travel and mum or dad should be able to relish the journey without the stress of driving or catching the bus.
But, travelling by train, especially during rush hour can be a hellish affair. Trying to get baby, child, parent through ticket barrier and into the family carriage – which is usually packed full of boot-faced commuters – is very un-fun. Especially when you find the baby has had a nappy explosion and there are no serviceable toilets a mile either side of your seat.
We love the utopian idea from Family & Friends Railcard of what a real family train carriage should be.
Backed by child psychologist Emma Kenny and designed for children aged from 5 to 15, the Loud Zone would be split into three age appropriate sections and feature novel entertainment such as chalkboard walls.
Head of Marketing for Family & Friends Railcard, Andrew Robertson says: “We know families love to start and end day trips on the train but it can be difficult trying to keep children entertained without disturbing other passengers. With our vision of the Loud Zone they can be as noisy as they like and enjoy themselves to the full.”
The Family & Friends Railcard already aims to make travel for families easier by cutting a big chunk off of the cost of tickets. For a £26 annual card, adults get a third off of their fares and up to 60 per cent off of child tickets.
