Grandparents under pressure look after grandchildren

Grandparents are feeling under pressure when it comes to looking after their grandchildren.

Around 7 million grandparents in the UK look after their grandchildren and help around the house whilst parents or carers work.

According to findings by Aviva, the average grandparent is caring for two children for around 13 hours every week, 99.5 per cent without pay.

As well as minding the kids, grandparents are also having to provide the family meal and help out around the house.

A total of 28 per cent do the school run regularly, 13 per cent assist with the gardening and 15 per cent help with occasional household bills.
