Mical, is a very Bristol story, a true story, based on a mother’s determination to help support her child with his literacy.

Set in Bristol in 1977, the movie short tells the story of Pat Jones, mother of Mike, who was diagnosed as dyslexic after experiencing severe difficulties at school.

Pat went on to learn as much as she could about dyslexia and reading, eventually setting up the Bristol Dyslexia Centre and Belgrave School, an independent specialist setting for children with Specific Learning Difficulties – dyslexia – as well as associated other conditions.

The teaching methods found their way into Nessy, a software program designed to help children with reading and spelling;

The film aims to raise awareness about dyslexia and create change in the education system for dyslexic children.
