Nivea Sun Kids Moisturising Sun Spray and Caring Roll On – Review

Sunscreen can be a total nightmare for parents and children. Sensitive skin and allergic reactions, the sticky feel on hands and the cloying feeling on skin can cause tantrums and tears. For many with allergies and skin sensitivities, the best way to avoid skin damage from the sun is to stay out of its way between 11am and 3pm, seek shade and cover up with long sleeves and floppy sun hats.

But things like school attendance make this kind of sun safety difficult. This is especially so during break time, lunch play and sports day which comes at peak sun avoidance time. Long summer holidays on days out and paddling at the beach in the midday sun also puts the clappers on ‘seeking shade’. This is where Nivea is great for taking care of sun exposed skin during bursts of play and splashing.

We were really interested to discover two high protection Nivea products which takes some of the exasperating difficulties out of sunscreen application.

The Nivea Sun Kids Moisturising Sun Spray has a very high SPF of 50 + and four star UVA protection. What’s good about this product is the spray trigger allowing you to apply sunscreen directly on the skin without having to rub it in hands first. This is ideal for people with sensory processing difficulties who find the feeling of sunscreen on hands difficult.

A second product from Nivea the Sun Kids Caring Roll-On also has a novel applicator, which again allows the application of the sunscreen onto skin without having to physically squeeze it into hands. This is also available in 50+ SPF and four star UVA protection.

If you are familiar with the Sad Face Social Media Stories with woe-filled tales about sunscreen failures, make sure you don’t become the next Comp-Face Metro filler by reading the instructions very carefully. Nivea recommends covering children from top to toe with sunscreen by applying two layers. One should be done 30 minutes before going outside and the second 15 minutes later. Nivea’s Sun Kids – although water resistant – should be reapplied every two hours as well as after swimming and towel drying. Always read the instruction label before use.

Chopsy Baby Says:
We found this formula to be non-sticky and really easy to apply. It’s great for children who are really sunscreen averse and it’s ideal as part of your daily sun protection arsenal. The formula whilst offering a high protection did not trigger an allergic reaction on my six year old’s sensitive skin, though I made sure she showered straight away on returning from school.

Sunscreen Ratings
One of the first things to look at when purchasing sun cream is how high the sun protection factor (SPF) is. This is the ultraviolet B radiation (UVB) protection. That’s the number on the front and ranges from around 6 to 50+. The higher the number the stronger it is.

But it’s also important to turn the sunscreen around and look at the stars on the back. You are looking for a circle with UVA (ultraviolet A radiation) and a star rating up to five. Again, the more stars the more protection the product offers.
