Peppa Pig grosses more than £100 million
Pre-school favourite Peppa Pig, has certainly been bringing home the bacon, grossing more than £100 million in UK retail sales in the last financial year.
The animated favourite has only been around for six years and is co-owned by E1 and the show’s creators Astley Baker Davies.
Show producer Phil Davies, of Astley Baker Davies said: “We are all extremely pleased with Peppa Pig’s success and happy that audiences have embraced the characters. My view of children’s TV in the UK has been that in order to create a brand that’s going to endure, the artistic and commercial part of the business has to work together: neither can survive without the other.’
“‘From the first day we pitched Peppa Pig we had a clear vision of how merchandising, books, DVD, toys and apparel would work and we were very lucky that we found a distributor in E1 Entertainment who shared that same vision.”
Peppa Pig toy sales have increased by more than 30 per cent in the last year with the Princess Peppa’s Palace nominated as a Dream Toy for Christmas 2009 by the Toy Retailer’s Association.
