Popular Music Spot Bristol Bierkeller Announces Sudden Closure

Popular Bristol nightspot and gig venue Bristol Bierkeller, announced it was to close for good in a shock Facebook announcement yesterday.

The popular venue played host to major music acts across the years, including being the first venue Nirvana played in their first UK tour.

It was perhaps more famous for its Saturday Oom Pah nights, which at its peak featured a leather lederhosen clad band with tables of steins and Bavarian dressed staff.

The nightclub in recent years had become a fringe theatre venue, but will likely be most fondly remembered as the biggest alternative nightclub during the 90s and played host to the weekly Kandi Klub.

In an official announcement on the club’s Facebook page, the closure was attributed to the redevelopment of the building in which the club is based. Club staff are in the process of moving gigs to other Bristol music spots with original tickets still valid.

The announcement read: ‘This is a very sad time for all of us at the Bierkeller, there have been some historic gigs over the years including the first UK show for Nirvana…Royal Blood, Biffy Clyro, Arctic Monkeys, Janes Addiction, Tool, PJ Harvey, Stone Roses, Cage the Elephant, Pixes, Ash, Fear Factory, Nile, Sleaford Mods…it goes on.. plus all the great theater, comedy and club nights….but that’s it…all done…. Thanks to everyone for all your support …………the Bierkeller.’
