Broadmead charity shop forced to close entrance doors due to theft
A charity shop in Broadmead has been hit by ‘prolific’ shoplifting, forcing them to close access to the store via one of their entrances.
During the school Easter holidays, a sign was placed on the door of the British Heart Foundation which opens onto The Horsefair.
The sign reads: ‘This door is closed due to prolific shoplifting. Please use the main entrance. Thank you for your understanding.’

Minutes for the Broadmead Bristol Bid – BID Advisory Board meeting – Wednesday 29 January 2025, shows shoplifting continues to be an issue in the central shopping area.
A police update urged all businesses in the area to report any criminal incidents to the police, with CCTV evidence where possible.
Retail Support Rangers work with the police, Street Intervention Services, Cabot Circus and The Galleries to recover and prevent shoplifting.
The Retail Rangers are contracted from SWL Security to support those paying the BID Levy. This is a financial contribution businesses make to fund services in their BID area.
Broadmead Bid says that in 2024, its Retail Rangers had recovered £67,125 worth of stock.
From January to March 2025, £9,133 had been recovered.
