RALLI campaign to help children with specific language impairment
Language Impairment affects one child in every UK classroom and the little known condition leaves families and children without the support they need.
According to a group of academics at top UK universities, Specific language impairment (SLI) affects the way children learn and form friendships.
Now a campaign has been launched to help raise awareness of a condition that should be given the same level of attention as autism.
RALLI, is a video led campaign aimed at children, their families and educational professionals.
From the RALLI campaign, Professor Dorothy Bishop says: “Language learning impairment can have a dramatic impact on children. Research shows that two in five children who have the condition say they have difficulties interacting with peers and are twice as likely to be bullied. These issues do not stop as they grow older, in fact, teenagers with language impairment are two and half times more likely to report symptoms of anxiety or depression. That’s why we had to take action and launch RALLI, to raise awareness of those who suffer.”
