The magic and beauty of rainbows, captures the attention and imagination of both adults and children alike.

The Solar Rainbow Maker available at BrightMinds.co.uk, is designed to project dozens of beautiful rainbows across your walls.  However, our attempt at creating the Solar Rainbow, was a mixture of disaster and initiative.

The Solar Rainbow Maker, is a rainbow kit that is put together by hand and creates rainbows around the room during sunshine.

Aimed at children aged 6 years and up, the kit contains a small solar unit to transfer the sun’s rays into energy, powering a small motor to rotate three shaped pieces of glass. The glass then creates rainbows around the room when direct sunlight shines onto it.

The easy to follow instructions are more geared to adults but it was quick and simple to put the components together.

Careful handling is needed. The parts are light weight so the suckers can hold the load to the window.

If your children are heavy handed, work with them putting this together.

Chopsy Baby editor, Jen Smith tested out the Solar Rainbow. She says: “When I first looked at the kit, I realised that it needed some careful handling.  Unfortunately, I met with disaster when the short wires connecting the solar panel to the motor came lose. This could be easily rectified with a glue gun, but did not have one immediately to hand

“Whilst on Christmas Day you do not want a gift to present problems, limiting your own irritation and using some initiative to save the day can still keep the kids happy.

“I fiddled about with the parts, removed the solar panel and some cogs, refitted pieces together and suckered the unit back onto the window. Though the glass will not turn independently, the kit has been modified to turn manually by hand.

“In the sun, the walls are covered in beautiful rainbows. The novelty of the solar powered motor has been lost, but all children who have seen the rainbows cover the walls have been enchanted. Turning it by hand still makes the rainbows dance across the room and has the same desired effect.”
