Review: gNappies with Biodegradable Disposable Inserts

nappy

Becoming the parent or carer of a newborn baby for the first time can be incredibly daunting with so many new things to get to grips with.

For people wanting to give natural nappies a go, finding a system that works for your family is key to success.

gNappies are an almost foolproof system that allows the best of both worlds.

Coming in a range of bright outer covers called gPants, the system allows for using cloth inserts or plastic free biodegradable disposable inserts. The system convieniently switches backwards and forwards according to your day.

Using the gNappies system is not unlike other natural nappy systems. It consists of an outer and an inner. The inner in this case can either be reusable or disposable.

To dispose of the inners, the gRefill can be flushed down the toilet as long as instructions are followed carefully. Alternatively, wet inserts only may go on the garden compost. The last option is to bin the entire insert. Binning the insert is still an eco-friendly action because unlike a typical disposable nappy that can take as long as 500 years to break down, the inserts of gNappies, are 100 per cent biodegradable.

Amanda Whitely reviewed the gNappies with disposable inserts with her baby son Henry.

Amanda Says: “Wow. These nappies really are a wow. So simple to use and nearly mess free.

“They fit Henry really snuggly around the legs which is something I had my eye on. I have been getting a bit fed up of leaks up the back and out of the sides by the other reusables I have been using.

“I have to admit I haven’t tried flushing an inner layer. I am worried about the toilet getting blocked. I have had a couple go an a family member’s compost heap when they were just wee. But for dirty ones I put them straight in the bin. I haven’t put them in nappy sacks. That would defeat the object. They roll up quite well and the bin hasn’t been especially smelly yet.

“The thing I like the most is the price of the disposable inserts. It’s much cheaper doing nappies this way than using all disposable.

“I also really like that it is a compromise and there are no buckets of nappies loitering around the house that have to be dealt with.

“This system is a real winner for Henry and I.”

gNappies come in the following sizes:

Newborn: 2-4 kg (6-10 lbs)
Small: 3-7 kg (8-14 lbs)
Medium: 5-13 kg (13-28 lbs)
Large: 11-16 kg (26-36 lbs)

gPants start from around £14.95 with disposable inserts £8.95 for 40.
