Review: Imaginext Big Foot from Fisher-Price is new family friend

The Imaginext Big Foot, from Fisher-Price, is perhaps less of a toy, and more of a live in monster friend.

The sociable creature, is a highly impressive playmate, standing approximately 15 inches high. It talks, interacts, somersaults and throws a ball – all by way of a child-friendly remote control. In fact, the only things it can’t do is make cups of tea and walk the dog.

The toy is incredibly easy for preschoolers to use, including operating the large remote control. It is without the eye poking aerial and will survive being dropped by children or thrown in a tantrum. It has large chunky buttons with easy-read pictures.

Big Foot isn’t pretty but he is the fun supporting character actor who wins the laughs from the audience over the leading man.

On behalf of Chopsy Baby, Three “but I’m almost four” year old Aiden Hicks tested out the Big Foot, aided by his mother Carrie.

Carrie says: “At first, Aiden found the hefty toy a little ‘scary’. It does breathe loudly and stands quite tall. After I had a go operating Big Foot, Aiden was quick to take over from a  safe distance and it was really funny watching him running away when it started to somersault towards him.

“Eventually, he picked it up and realised it was just a toy. It’s quite impressive that they have created something that children actually think is alive, though not in a Chucky way.

“A big plus is the remote control. We have other toys that are remote control but are not very strong and all have had the aerial snapped off accidentally. This remote control was really easy and safe for Aiden to use.”

Plenty of space is required to use the toy. Big Foot will panic when rolling over clutter but cleverly, he manages to cope with this and nine times out of ten can right himself up again without assistance.

Big Foot uses a rechargeable battery (included) and needed re-charging after approximately three hours play time. The toy even tells you when his battery is getting low.

Thank you to the genius who realised on going battery changes would irritate parents if it meant endless trips to the ‘man drawer’ for the screwdriver. The clever design opens with a penny instead.

If Big Foot could open that stubborn jar of olives, then with the rest of his characteristics including laughs, burps, chats, snores and pounding his fists when angry, it’s just like having another man around the house.

Retailing at around £100, the toy is expensive. But, for this price you get a well made, gadgety, robust, entertaining and clever creature who is more family than toy box.
