Safety Consultation on Bristol Waterways, Docks and Harbourside

Bristol Docks Water Safety Consultation:

A public consultation is taking place, garnering Bristolian’s opinions about water safety in Bristol.

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) and Bristol Water Safety are asking people living in the city to fill in a survey about the current water safety aspects around the city and Harbourside, as well as things that could be done to improve it.

According to findings from the National Water Safety Forum, 255 people in the UK accidentally drowned during 2017, 15 per cent down on the previous years statistics.

RoSPA say this shows that proactive prevention programmes are working.

Whilst many will associate accidental drowning with seaside and coastal locations, more people drown inland in rivers, lakes and canals, with the majority falling into water whilst out walking or running.

Central Bristol is a vulnerable place for the water unwary, especially with the high number of bars and clubs around the Harbourside.
