Sarah’s Law – The Child Sex Offenders Disclosure Scheme launched in Bristol

The Child Sex Offenders Disclosure Scheme has launched in the Avon and Somerset constabulary area.

Also known as Sarah’s Law, a successful pilot has seen the scheme rolled out across the UK, with all police forces to be involved by April 2011.

The disclosure scheme will allow parents, carers and other appropriate individuals to find out if a person with access to their child is registered as a sex offender, or poses any kind of risk.

Head of Public Protection Geoff Wessell said: “We have always taken the protection of children extremely seriously and for sometime have had a range of robust and successful procedures in place to support this.

“The introduction of Sarah’s law is a welcome addition to the existing measures that are already in place in Avon and Somerset. This will support the fight to protect children and further ensure they are even safer in the future.”
