Snot a joke

Kids are imitating their mums and dads when it comes to picking up bad nasal habits.

Research from Kleenex, shows that the top hygiene vice picked up was children not washing hands after coughing, followed by sneezing into their hands and picking their noses.

In the South West 81 per cent of children rub their nose with their sleeve, and are the worst in the country for sneezing into their hands.

Almost half of parents can’t remember being taught the correct etiquette for coughing and sneezing into a tissue.

Kleenex is addressing these issues with their Sneezesafe campaign.

The campaign aimed at four – six year olds is attempting to teach youngsters to use a tissue when sneezing to avoid the spread of germs.

A Kleenex spokesperson said:  “Unfortunately colds are a fact of life. Previous Kleenex research has shown that families are five times more likely to catch colds over winter than those without children.  Habits both good and bad are formed at an early age. Through the Sneezesafe programme we aim to help prevent the spread of these by teaching kids and parents alike how to minimise the spread of cold viruses from child to child”.
