Part Time Nannies On The Rise Due To Housing Costs and Zero Hours Contracts

People in the South West are taking up part time nannying as a way of raising their monthly income.

A 27 per cent of people aged 25 years and under in the UK are forced to take up part time nannying, a statistic that has risen by 67 per cent in the last three years.

The main reason for the additional working hours is the need by 35 per cent of university students to fit flexible working hours around their studying.

But 59 per cent said it was housing costs that caused them to seek the work. Another 19 per cent found it a necessity due to the unreliability of their current zero hours contracts.

The average hourly rate for a nanny is currently £10.89, according to Childcare.co.uk, who is behind the research.

The highest paid nannies are in London commanding an average of £10.03, with South West nannies coming in fourth place at £9.47. The lowest paid nannies are in the North East looking after youngsters at an average of £8.61 per hour.
