Stressful stains ruin job prospects and dates

Messy eaters in Bristol should take more care and time with their food as it seems the city doesn’t tolerate stains.

Spilling food down the front of clothing was a serious date crime, putting off more than 50 per cent of potential Mr/Mrs Rights.

It was also found to damage job prospects with 20 per cent of interview candidates ditching the job interview at the last minute due to the embarrassment of turning up looking mucky.

The findings come from the Ariel with Actilift Stain and Shame Investigation, which looked at the emotional responses to stains and how they affect our everyday life.

For some 28 per cent of people, getting a stain on their clothing was as stressful as losing their wallet.

Celebrity Stylist Nicky Hambleton Jones, says: “The Ariel with Actilift Stain and Shame Investigation shows we are conscious of our appearances and getting a stain can undermine this and cause us great distress. Clothing can be regarded as an extension to someone’s personality and we can be left feeling ashamed and humiliated when this is damaged. The findings even go so far as to show that stains can cause us to miss important appointments, fork out on replacement items of clothing and even avoid going for a second date!”
