UK businesses miss out on top talent
UK bosses are missing out on employing top talent as a lack of flexible working hours and pricey childcare sees parents leaving the job market.
During the early child rearing years, parents develop new essential skills and enhance the ones already possessed.
Most notably, multitasking, time management and communication skills are some of the new skills parents are developing, eventually leading many to set up their own businesses.
Financial planning and money management skills also improved with 39.2 per cent of parents and despite quitting work to look after children, 37.6 per cent have improved their project planning skills.
The findings come from a new survey by Family Friendly Working, a news and information website for parents looking to start flexible work.
Director of Family Friendly Working and author Antonia Chitty, has run her own PR business since the birth of her daughter in 2002.
She says: “I know that I’ve developed my skills since I left employment and it looks like I’m not alone. Britain’s’ bosses need to think hard about offering more flexible work opportunities in order to make the most of talented parents.”
