What’s on at Brunel’s ss Great Britain this Half Term

Crew do you think you are?
Daily, 10am – close

Would you have cut it as a member of the ss Great Britain’s crew? Using a beautifully illustrated activity wheel, complete a series of challenges as you make your way around the ship, tackling various maritime tasks, to see which role would have suited you best.

Crew Talks:
Every Saturday and Wednesday at 12pm

Find out what it was like to be a member of the crew working on the ss Great Britain with an engaging insight provided by one of the knowledgeable Visitor Services Volunteers.

Sounds of the 1800s: Eavesdrop on voices from the past
Daily, 10am – 4.30pm

Be transported 170 years into the past as the First Class Dining Saloon comes bursting to life. A Victorian, three-course dining experience is vividly recreated with gossip, clinking cutlery and even a spot of gambling; inspired by true stories taken from passengers’ accounts.

Flash, Bang, Wallop!
Daily, 10am – close

Dress in authentic Victorian clothes, with props and backdrop, then pose for a portrait in our Melbourne photographic studio from yesteryear. Take home a fantastic souvenir and share it with your friends!

‘See-Hear’ Storytelling:
05 November & 03 December 2013, 11am, Brunel Institute

There’s no need to book, just turn up with your pre-school little ones and settle down for some maritime tales. Sarah Mooney captivates the imaginations of young (and not so young!) visitors with free sessions; mixing classic legends with new twists. Expect whales and angel fish, pirate treasure and stormy seas!

Brunel’s Amazing Inventions:
Saturday 19 Oct, 11am to 3pm at the Brunel Institute

Be inspired by Brunel’s amazing inventions at this year’s Big Draw event where a large collection of his original sketches will be exhibited. Try your hand at creating your own inventions.

Crew Capers Family Storytelling:
Tuesday 29 & Thursday 31 Oct, 12pm & 2pm

Join resident storyteller Sarah Mooney on board the ss Great Britain to hear tales of mayhem, mischief, practical joking and hard work, inspired by real life events. These 20 minute sessions are free with the price of admission.
