The Clangers in production for new CBeebies series

clangers

The Clangers are being given a new lease of life, with new episodes being created for a CBeebies series to run in 2015.

The original series launched on the Beeb in 1969 and featured mouse shaped creatures living on a planet in space.

Peter Firmin and Oliver Postgate’s son Daniel, are involved in the writing and design process and the animation will be traditional stop motion.

Peter Firmin says: “We hope to engage and entertain children of all ages and their families, just as Oliver and I did all those years ago. The new series will include great story telling with lots of heart. It will also be technically improved. When you watch the original Clangers you have to make allowances for the limitations of the animation techniques when it was made. It was magical for its time, but this is a new Clangers for a new age!”
