Average new parents spend £500 on new baby’s first month
Parents are forking out more than £500 on the first month of their new baby’s life, pulling out for nappies, clothes and feeding equipment.
More than 1,000 parents with children aged one and under were polled by MyVoucherCodes.co.uk.
The aim was to find out how much parents were spending on new baby essentials in the first month alone.
On average, parents bought 4.3 pack of nappies costing around £23.52. They also said they splashed out on around 20.7 items of clothing with the average spend per garment being £11.74.
Feeding equipment including bottles, sterilisers and bibs totaled £53.51.
Other purchases including furniture and toys averaged £183.23.
The final average total totted up to £503.27.
Chairman of MyVoucherCodes.co.uk, Mark Pearson said: “I was surprised by the amount of money parents need to spend in the first month alone, but I am sure a lot of it is preparation and certain things can be carried over into the second and third month. Some costs are unavoidable, like nappies and feeding equipment, but it’s always worth parents searching for discounts before they buy; as savings here and there can really help in the long run, financially speaking.”
